San Francisco's curbside bulky pickup runs through Recology, and a residential account gets only a couple of free bulky-item pickups a year, by appointment, with the item dragged out to the curb yourself. That's fine for the occasional chair — but it can't take a sectional from a fourth-floor no-elevator Victorian, it won't enter a SoMa tower with a freight-elevator and COI requirement, and the annual cap runs out fast. We pick up on your schedule, do the carry, and donate or recycle what's still good.
Getting a couch out of a San Francisco home is mostly about access: the narrow turn at the top of a Victorian flat, the no-elevator carry down four floors in the Mission or Castro, a truck staged on a 20%-plus grade on Russian or Nob Hill, the reserved freight-elevator window and Certificate of Insurance in a SoMa, Mission Bay, or Rincon Hill tower. We're built for all of it — we split sectionals into pieces to clear a tight stairwell or cabin, protect the banisters and common areas, and fold the whole carry into one flat number. A fourth-floor walk-up costs the same as the ground floor.
A couch in good shape goes to local donation or consignment rather than the landfill; worn pieces are broken down so the metal, wood, and foam are recycled where possible, and only the rest is hauled. Keeping usable furniture out of SF's waste stream is included in the flat price.
